Soundscapes (a part of The Village and the Extended Soundscapes project)
animation, installation | 2014 | 4 min. 50 sec. loop
This project reflects a body of work inspired by traveling, developed during my time at an artist residency program in CeRCCa, Spain, summer 2014. During the 6 weeks residency, I collected hundreds of sound clips from exploration trips around the Catalonia region, using a Tascam audio field recorder. Five unique sound pieces were selected to make abstract animations. They captured the essential energy and collective spirit of the place and space we’ve visited. Most of the clips were from a typical small Spanish village, Llorenc del Penedes, home of CeRcca. Along with the sound clips, videos of village people, place and space were recorded from a 5D Mark III DSLR camera. The video clips are intended to reflect the village life from a visitor’s point of view: a surreal sense of emptiness, oblivion and the feeling of lost in time.
